Ann Rigney to participate in a conference on Democratic Memory in Europe, in Madrid 4-6 October 2023

Ann Rigney has been invited to participate in discussions about the future of democratic memory organised by the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

About the conference

The European countries have set up a series of networks that support and encourage the involvement of spaces of memory and the creation of memorials and museums that pay tribute to the individual and collective struggles of women and men who have contributed to acquiring rights, freedoms and democracy. Based on memory, present and future generations will be able to appreciate the freedom and democratic rights they enjoy today and defend them from possible infringements.

This international conference will highlight the initiatives in Europe that have laid the foundations for managing cultural heritage from the perspective of memory, the defence of human rights and the firm commitment to “non-repetition” as an unavoidable ethical imperative of a democratic European society.
